WINDY BOY INVERTERS

Grid Connect Inverters for Wind Turbine Systems


Windy Boy inverters from SMA are ideal for use with grid-connected wind turbine systems. The inverters can be set to "Turbine mode" which allows the inverter to follow the actual power curve of the wind turbine. Windy boy inverters can be adjusted to the wind turbine's characteristics curve using software provided the aim of which is to achieve optimum yield. The windy boy will work with a wide variety of wind turbines and units can be linked together in parallel to achieve the required efficiency. Read windy boy planning guidelines.

To select the right windy boy for your use you will need to know the power and voltage range classification of the planned wind turbine system. Over voltage protection is required on the DC input side and inverters can be located close to the wind turbine thus reducing the need to have long runs of DC cable.

Windy Boy 1100 LV - Compatible with Sunny Boy Communication

The WB 1100LV is designed for applications with a very low input voltages. The WB 1100LV is designed for DC input voltages of 21 V to 60 V, and accepts currents of up to 62 A. Very small wind turbines with low output voltages can thus be easily connected to the grid, or integrated into a stand-alone grid with Sunny Island.

Windy Boy WB 2500 - Plants with 3 kWp range

The Windy Boy is able to be connected to any wind turbine with a three phase, rectified DC output within the operating ranges of the inverter. Multiple Windy Boy inverters can be paralleled for larger turbines. Each turbine manufacturer pre-configures the inverter for optimum operation with their specific wind turbine. Historically, grid-tied wind systems have been connected to the grid through charge controllers, batteries and inverter/chargers.
