The Rutland Furlmatic 1803 Wind Turbine
with MPC1 Controller

Rutland 1803 wind turbine with controller. New 3 blade design

MPC Controller- Electronics to optimise the performance of the 1803

Are you living off grid? Do you need power at a remote site?

Take advantage of the abundant power of the wind to generate your own free power using the Rutland FM1803 Furlmatic Windcharger.

The FM1803 needs only a light breeze to start generating power for charging batteries so you have the convenience of energy stored for whenever you need it. Typically the 12V or 24V battery power can be used for:

  • Low energy lighting
  • Pumps
  • Refrigerators
  • Telecommunications equipment
  • Computers & TV’s
  • 230V appliances can be operated through an inverter

Available in 12 volt or 24 volts

It's new aerodynamic proportions are designed to deliver maximum efficiency from its 1.8m diameter 2-bladed turbine. We've given the FM1803 a new aerodynamic styling and the latest generator technology to deliver nearly 40% more power without increasing the turbine size. In fact the weight has been reduced, but the FM1803 is still as robust and "heavy duty" as its predecessor.

Suitable applications include off-grid homes, telemetry stations, telecom sites, radio/tv transmitter stations, rural clinics for refrigeration and lighting, meteorological stations, security systems, navigation aids, portable power for expeditions and military field applications, etc.

Whatever the application you'll find using the FM1803 is convenient, reliable and cost effective. It can be used alone or in conjunction with solar panels and/or a diesel generating set to create your own stand-alone power system free of costly grid installation and on-going costs.

Tower - there are various designs are available that are adaptable to fit the FM1803 turbine’s post fitting. A pole with an 81mm internal and 91mm external diameter is needed to affix the turbine to the tower. Lattice, freestanding and guyed towers are all suitable depending on the terrain, height and application. Wind loading figures for your tower design are available on request.

  • Includes automatic operation controller incorporating battery overcharge protection, manual stall switch to idle operation for battery maintenance, charge ammeter and battery voltage indicator
  • AC voltage transmitted to controller to allow optimum wind charger positioning whilst minimising voltage losses
  • Latest 3-phase alternator design
  • Composite aerofoil blades of durable glass fibre
  • Automatic furling system activates in excessive winds to mechanically protect turbine and reduce stresses
  • Controller available in 12v or 24v, wind charger unit is identical for both
  • Designed to mount on 81mm internal diameter tube

Other System Components:

Batteries – deep cycle lead acid batteries either sealed or unsealed are suitable for charging from the FM1803. A minimum capacity of 300Ah @ 12V and 400Ah @ 24V.

Cable – 3 core cable is required. The thickness to distance recommendations are: up to 50m 1.5mm² (16AWG), up to 100m 2.5mm² (14AWG). Longer distances are possible. The controller should always be located indoors or within a cabinet and within 2m cable distance of the battery bank.

Mounting Pole / Tower - a minimum height of 6m of 81mm inside diameter tube supported by a minimum of 4 guyed wires is necessary. Further details are given in the Installation Manual.

Performance Characteristics
